Are you ready for HR services?
So, your business is expanding.
First - Congrats! You are already well aware of the hard work, planning, and consistency that have gotten you here.
Second - Do you have a firm understanding of how employment laws impact your business differently as your employee headcount increases? Do you have the HR systems in places to effectively accommodate growth while avoiding traditional growing pains?
Here at PNW Small Business Solutions we offer a variety of solutions to the many HR issues a growing business is faced with. Below we have a brief overview for your reference to see if your business is in the right places for our services to help you continue to grow.
The most important question: How many employees do you have on payroll?
As your business grows and you hire more employees, your obligations under federal law change dramatically, and staying on top of this is essential to maintaining compliance and a productive labor force.
Do you have a single employee or more?
If so, you will be impacted by the following: - The Equal Pay Act - The Fair Labor and Standards Act - Immigration Reform and Control - Employment Retirement Income Security Act - OSHA - Consumer Credit Protection Act - Employee Polygraph Protection Act - Uniformed Services Employment Act
Do you have at least 15 employees?
If so, you will be impacted by the following: -Americans with Disabilities Act > You cannot discriminate based on disability and a required to make reasonable accommodation - Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act > You cannot discriminate based on genetic information - Pregnancy Discrimination Act > You cannot discriminate against pregnant women and must provide space for milking - Title VII of the Civil Rights Act
Do you have at least 20 employees?
If so, you will be impacted by the following: - Age Discrimination Act > Cannot discriminate based on age - COBRA > Required optional continuation of employer sponsored health plan
Do you have at least 50 or more employees?
If so, you will be impacted by the following: - Affordable Care Act > At 50 employees you become accountable for the "Employer Shared Responsibility." This requires that you offer "minimal essential coverage" that is "affordable" and provides "minimum value" to full time employees - Family and Medical Leave Act > For qualifying events you are required to approve unpaid time off for the impacted employee and to keep their position, or an equivalent one, available for their return
Now that you have made your way through the list do you have a better understanding of the laws you need to be aware of today? The laws you must prepare for as you grow? Do you feel comfortable in your ability to stay compliant as things change? Or do you feel overwhelmed by the responsibilities that emerge as your business grows?
No matter how you are feeling we, at PNW Small Business Solutions, offer a variety of services specifically tailored to help reduce the difficulties of a growing employee headcount.
